Dr. Thomas L. Sakmyster spent a decade in researching the elusive “J. Peters,” a man reputed to run the Soviet underground network in the U.S. during the 1930s: perhaps the ultimate “Red Conspirator” in America. When first naming in public on August 3, 1948, former communist spy Whittaker Chambers said, “The head of the whole business was J. Peters.” Within a month, the same House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) that had subpoenaed Chambers then subpoenaed Peters. Yet, within a few months, the Federal governments Immigration service had effectively chased Peters out of the States to his native Hungary, where he disappeared… until Dr. Sakmyster tracked down and uncovered the missing story of his life.
